Transcript of diaries relating to the First World War service of 25 Private Thomas James Richards, 1st Australian Field Ambulance. This transcript was made of the first bound volume of Richards’ diaries and covers the period 26 August 1914 to 24 April 1915. As such the entries detail: his enlistment and embarkation from Australia; the journey to Egypt; the establishment of the 1st Australian Field Ambulance (1st AFA) at Mena; training and sightseeing in Egypt; the movement of the 1st AFA to the island of Lemnos; and preparations for the landings at Gallipoli. This transcript was made by the Australian War Memorial in 1935.
