Embroidered souvenir with photograph of the three Denahy brothers
Black cotton sateen souvenir with blue, red, white and silver embroidery, mainly in longstich couched with silver thread, showing a crown above a Union Jack and an Australian red ensign, with a spray of leaves and flowers. Beneath is a padded and appliqued shield in red cotton sateen, edged with twisted red, white and blue cord. The shield is embroidered in white satin stitch with a kangaroo and emu. The centre of the shield has an oval cutout edged in the same cord. The cutout contains a black and white photograph of the three Denahy brothers, taken in France in February 1918.
Sent home to Australia by the three Denahy brothers in February 1918. They were 32128 Gunner Daniel Denahy of 36 Heavy Artillery Brigade, who enlisted on 11 May 1916; 259 Sergeant Jeffery Denahy, of 6 Australian Field Artillery, who enlisted on 8 June 1915; and 27322 Driver John 'Jack' Denahy of 6 Australia Field Artillery, who enlisted on 9 May 1916. All the brothers returned safely to Australia after the First World War.
