Description

German Army Other Ranks M.1915 Pattern field grey woollen Bluse jacket. It has a stand and fall collar which is fitted with a pair of ferrous hook and eye fasteners. The six black wood, or compressed fibre, buttons on the front of the jacket are concealed. A pocket, which has a diagonally aligned button-down flap, has been let into the front of both hips. The grey painted metal button on both hip pockets bears the Prussian crown. The shoulder straps are made from a more coarse grey-green woollen fabric that is slightly darker coloured than the fabric used for the body of the jacket. They have white coloured edging (infantry) except where each is sewn into the jacket at the shoulder seam. They are held down on the inward end by metal buttons that are painted grey and bear the Prussian crown. The number '455' has been embroidered in red woollen thread on both shoulder straps. On both the sleeve cuffs the fabric has been turned back 40-45mm and hemmed with a single line of stitching. The jacket is fully lined with field grey cotton drill. A small panel in the centre of the lining is a slightly different colour to the rest of the lining. A name(?) has been written on the lining at the top of the back on the right side but it is too faint to be decipherable. A pocket, with a single button on the opening, has been let into the lining of the right breast. Stamped in black ink near the top buttonhole on the inside of the left front panel is 'TrA14 / 1916'. Below this, adjacent to the third buttonhole, is another indecipherable black stamp. Between the two black stamps is another faint stamp. The first line is indecipherable but the line below appears to be '4B'. A pocket has been let into the lining behind the markings. Its vertical slit opening is in the seam along the edge of the lining fabric, alongside the second, third and fourth button holes. There is a large stain in the middle of the panel below the markings.
