Description

German Army Hussar officer's(?) field grey Attila jacket. This single breasted jacket has a stand collar, which is fastened with three pairs of hook and eye fittings, and five rows of grey and black cord frogging down the front. A pocket with a slit opening that slopes downward from the front to the back has been let into both hips. The pockets have braid cord trim along the bottom edge of the opening, which terminates in a knot at the rearward end. There is a knot in the bottom corner of both of the front panels. Single strands of paired cord braid has been applied to the edges of the collar, the edges of the front opening, the bottom edge of the jacket, and the top of the cuffs, which have only a simple loop at the top and not a knot. The dark green and yellow shoulder cords are buttoned on the inner end with black plastic buttons that bear the company number '5'. On the left shoulder cord (only) is a gilt regimental number '6'. On the back of the jacket a strand of paired cord braid curves down from a knot on both shoulders and terminates above the 220mm vent in the skirt. There is a knot below the collar, above the vent, and on both corners of the skirt an the bottom of the vent. The body of the jacket is mostly lined with brown polished cotton but it has been patched in several places with a more coarse metallic grey-green fabric. The sleeves are lined with yellow polished cotton except for a 70mm wide grey-green band inside the cuff. Inside the front panel on both sides near the waist is a short strap with a plated silver coloured clasp on the end. The clasps can be linked together to form a belt around the wearer's waist that holds the front panels together. There is also a vertical row of four alternating hook and eyes that secure the inside of the right front panel to the front edge of the the left front panel. A pocket with a slit opening has been let into the lining of the left breast and it has a maker's label sewn to the lining on the inside.
