Belt buckle : Saxon troops, German Army
Description
A rectangular, convex one piece pressed steel buckle, featuring a circular disc bearing the Royal Bavarian Crown. Arond the crown, a wreath of leaves and the motto 'IN TREUE FEST' (In Steadfast Loyalty). The buckle has a hinged double prong fastening system.
History / Summary
Collected by Captain Selby Beauchamp Steward, MC, who served with 6 Field Artillery Brigade, AIF. He enlisted on 23 April 1915 and returned to Australia on 25 January 1919. Steel belt buckles were first introduced in 1915, in an attempt to save more precious metals required for the war effort.
