For Christmas 1915 the Australian War Contingent Association in London produced and distributed to each Australian soldier a Christmas gift tin. This particular tin was given to 2375 Private George Hargreaves of 24 Battalion and sent home to his mother. A drover from Echuca, Victoria, Hargreaves enlisted in the AIF on 7 July 1915 and served on the Western Front. He was killed in action at Pozieres on 5 August 1918, aged 30 years.
