Description
British Grenade Hand No. 1. The grenade consists of a cylindrical brass body with cast iron fragmentation ring. Attached to the body is a short cane handle with four webbing streamers to stabilize the grenade in flight, and on the top of the grenade an adjustable cap for safe, travel and fire. The grenade is complete with belt hook and is painted light green. Markings - FIRE; TRAVEL; REMOVE.
History / Summary
The No 1 grenade was adopted by the British Army in 1908 and was still being used at the outbreak of the First World War alongside later generation of grenades.
