History / Summary

Neil Davis, born in 1934 in Tasmania, spent most of his adult life as a cameraman and correspondent reporting on south east Asia. His best known work was his coverage of the Vietnam War, where he often preferred to report from the South Vietnamese perspective. He never avoided the frontline and was wounded on numerous occasions.

In 1985 Davis was based in Bangkok. On 9 September he was filming a low-key coup in the capital when he was killed by a spray of shrapnel.

This posthumous Logie Hall of Fame Award was presented to Gary Burns on behalf of the family. Burns was working with Davis in Bangkok and 'removed his body from the stree'" after he was killed, according to TV Week.

Burns later donated the Award to the Australian War Memorial.
