Description

Circular white metal badge with a grieving mother design and the words "FOR AUSTRALIA", with a hanging bar featuring one gilt star. Cast into the reverse are the words "ISSUED BY THE CWTH GOVT"; the manufacturer's details and the date (1943), and "AF" followd by the stamped serial number 2762. The single gilt star signifies one son killed.

Worn by the Mrs M E Bryant. The badge commemmorates the death of 22 year old Cowra law student 411747 Pilot Officer (PO) Robert Maxwell ("Max") Bryant, a navigator with 156 (Pathfinder) Squadron who was killed over Holland on 11 June 1943.
