Description

9 carat gold watch fob presented to Private Mersey Albert Reid on his departure from Australia for the First World War.
Obverse features a map of Australia engraved with a locomotive, set within a circle engraved 'SYDNEY LOCOMOTIVE BROTHERHOOD', surmounted by crossed rifles.
Reverse is engraved with the inscription on the back of the map 'Presented to M. REID 2.10.1915.', and around the circle 'on leaving for the front'.

History / Summary

Presented to 3286 Private Mersey Albert Reid, a railway fireman, on his departure from Sydney on 2 October 1915. He enlisted on 3 August 1915, aged 25, and was killed in action at Pozieres on 28 July 1916. He is buried at the Gordon Dump Cemetery at Ovillers-La Boiselle.
