Coin: Silver threepence : Warrant Officer Class II Albert Nickel, 8 Battalion, AIF
Description
Threepence coin with the reverse ground down and hand engraved with the Lord's Prayer. A small cross is etched below the prayer. A small loose suspension ring is attached to the top of the coin .
History / Summary
Carried by 1504 Warrant Officer Class II Albert Nickel. Nickel enlisted on 22 September 1914 and served with 8 Battalion. On 20 September 1917, when serving with the rank of Corporal he was involved in an action at Polygon Wood for which he received the Military Medal. He was later promoted to Sergeant and returned to Australia on 2 March 1919. His appointment as Warrant Officer Class II took effect from 1 October 1918, but was not signed off until 29 September 1919.
