History / Summary
Associated with 183 Denis Alfred Stinson of 36 Battalion, AIF. He was born in Paddington, NSW, and was working as a photographer in Millthorpe, NSW when he enlisted on 25 January 1916. He was killed in action near Armentieres in France on 20 Janaury 1917, at the age of 28. His mother later wrote, 'He was one of the first casualties in Carmichael's Riflemen's Thousand (a well-known recruiting drive in NSW), being with 3 others, members of a machine gun crew, blown up in a very severe bombardment by the enemy'.
