Souvenir medalet commemorating the death of Lord Kitchener
Description
Circular medalet with a bust of Lord Kitchener of Khartoum depicted on the obverse. Around the edge are the raised words 'IN MEMORY OF K OF K/ A NATIONS HERO. On the reverse are the crossed flags of Britain and Australia with 'AUG 1916' underneath. Around the edge are the raised words 'IN HONOUR OF OUR BRAVE BOYS/MARYBOUROUGH.
History / Summary
This Lord Kitchener memorial medalet was part of a consignment of approximamtely 6000 acquired in August 1916 by G.HORSBURGH & CO. LTD. at the request of the Mayor of Maryborough. They were sold throughout the community through businesses, schools and hospitals for sixpence each.
