Description

Voided badge in rose gold in the shape of a nineteenth century artillery piece facing right, with rammer leaning against the gun. Small detailing is engraved into the design. The reverse of the base is engraved 'To Vera from Harold'. A brooch pin fitting is soldered to the reverse.

History / Summary

Sweetheart brooch sent to his sister Vera by 22150 Gunner Harold Francis Perrior, born Trafalgar, Victoria in 1890 and employed as a farmer when he enlisted on 1 February 1916.

Assigned to 108 Battery, 23 Howitzer Brigade, Perrior embarked for overseas service from Melbourne aboard HMAT Medic on 20 May 1916. He arrived at Plymouth, UK on 18 July. After training, Perrior was assigned to 23 Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) and moved to France on 31 December; a week later he was transferred to 8 FAB.

On 15 August 1918 he was transferred to hospital due to an accidental injury - a gunshot wound to right leg, right thigh and right ear. After a short period in 6 General Hospital at Rouen, he returned to his unit on 11 September. After the November Armistice Perrior took leave in England and Ireland - see image P04879.001 when he and some friends visited the Lakes at Killarney, Ireland. He then rejoined his unit in France on 15 March. Perrior returned to Australia aboard the transport Karmala on 1 July 1919. He was discharged from service on 3 November.
