Description

Circular brass medallion with raised features, featuring a central decoration of the flags of Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines enamelled in red, blue and white, with a scroll bearing the dates 1915 - 2005. A circular border features the words 'ANNIVERSARY OF THE ANZAC LANDING AT GALLIPOLI April 25'. The reverse bears a Rising Sun design on a white enamel background, accompanied by the following text: 'Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. Presented by the Australian and New Zealand Embassies to mark the 90th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli, 25 April 1915. Libingan ng mgaBayani (Tomb of the Unknown Soldier). History / Summary

Produced by the Australian embassy in Manila, Philippines, in co-operation with the New Zealand Embassy, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings. The Anzac service was held on 25 April 2005 at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Fort Bonifacio, Makati City and was officially attended by the ambassadors of Australia, New Zealand and Turkey, and a representative of the Philippines government. The medallions were presented by Australia's Defence Attache, Colonel Chris Burns to the ambassadors, senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, foreign armed forces attaches, and school children. Manufacture of the medals was organised by Australian Embassy Assistant Defence Attache, Major Paul Rosenzweig.
