HMAS Sydney sweetheart brooch relating to the service of Leading Signalman John William Seabrook, a member of the Royal Navy on loan to the Royal Australian Navy. J W Seabrook was born in Essex, England in 1892. He joined the Sydney on 23 June 1913 when the ship was commissioned and served on her until November 1918. Seabrook was involved in the Sydney's engagement with the German raider SMS Emden on 9 November 1914.
