Wooden postcard sent from Gallipoli : Trooper S C Livesey, 10 Light Horse Regiment, AIF
Rectangular postcard made from wood. Written on blue ink on the obverse is 'Mrs O. Gilhardt/ Freidrich St./ Albany/ West Aust.'. Also stamped with post stamps. The letter on the reverse reads 'Dear Mother/ I hope this finds/ you in the best of/ health as it leaves/ me at present. I will write as/ [soon] as possible, from/ your loving son.' It was sent from Gaba-Tepe, Gallipoli Peninsula on 1 July 1915.
Wooden postcard written by Trooper Sydney Claude Livesey, 10th Light Horse Regiment. Sydney enlisted on 10 December 1914 and embarked for Gallipoli on 16 May 1915. This postcard was written several weeks after he arrived there.
In June-July 1915 the conditions were such that the troops had run out of paper, necessitating the letters sent home to be written with improvised materials.
After suffering several wounds and almost continual illness, Livesey sailed from the Suez on 10 July 1916 and arrived in Fremantle on 6 August 1916. He was discharged on 12 December 1916.
