Battle damaged SMLE No 1 Mk III* rifle magazine
Description
Short Magazine Lee Enfield Number 1 Mark 3 rifle magazine relic. The relic is a metal, ten round capacity rifle magazine which has suffered extensive battle damage. The follower and spring have been blown out. The bluing is worn off and there is some corrosion present. No manufacturer markings are present.
History / Summary
Short Magazine Lee Enfield rifle magazine struck by artillery shell fragments at Villers-Bretonneux on April 14 1918. The magazine was recovered by Corporal D F Armstrong, of the 56th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force.
