Description

Galvanised wire arm splint consisting of three ladder-like sections wired or hooked together to form a rigid support. The main support wires are flexible enough to be altered in shape to suit a particular wound.

History / Summary

The splint was applied to a wounded Australian soldier by a pair of German Army stretcher bearers, who were captured during during the 8 August Offensive and directed to accompany their patient to 10 Field Ambulance. It was subsequently collected by 13031 Sergeant Alexander David Anson, 10 Field Ambulance, AIF in the Sailly Laurette area and handed over to the Australian War Records Section on 29 August 1918.
