Improvised cricket bat : Corporal Frank Beatie Davidson, 56 Battalion, AIF
Description
Cricket bat handcrafted from a branch of silver birch. The face of the bat has been roughly planed down but the back remains curved with the tree bark intact. The handle is also uneven but has been smoothed in places for an easy grip. Written on the face of the bat in blue pencil is ' B Coy 56th Batt'. Written on one edge is 'E.E.P'
History / Summary
This cricket bat was made by 4768 Frank Beattie Davidson from B company of 56 Battalion and used at cricket matches held at Bussy-les- Daours in France by 5 and 6 Platoons between 11 and 15 June 1918.
