Corona 3 typewriter: Captain C E W Bean, Official Correspondent, AIF
Description
Official War Correspondent Charles Bean's Corona Type 3 Typewriter.
History / Summary
Bean used this typewriter during the Gallipoli campaign and the AIF's first year on the Western Front.
On 25 March 1917, Bean left for Lagnicourt to observe the attack and left his personal belongings in a dug out in Bapaume. A large delayed action mine exploded and the dug out collapsed, burying two men along with Bean's belongings. The typewriter was recovered two days later but was damaged beyond repair and had to be replaced.
