American Model 1917 Knuckleduster Dagger and Scabbard
Description
American Model 1917 Knuckleduster Dagger and Scabbard. The hilt has a pressed steel knuckle guard with six studs in the shape of a pyramid and a wooden grip that has four finger grooves. The crossguard is stamped US LF&Co over 1917. The triangular blade is blued and unmarked. Carved into the right side grip is P.C.ANDERSON. The green leather scabbard has a blackened chape and a locket with a double hook clip to attach it to the US webbing equipment. It is marked HF on the throat
History / Summary
This dagger was carried by an American soldier killed in a tank near Bonny in October 1918 during the breaking of the Hindenburg Line and brought back to Australia by Major General Gellibrand, 3rd Australian Division.
