German Raiding Club, Hamel : 41st Battalion, AIF
Description
German Raiding Club. Leather covered steel bar with a hook top reinforced with leather rivetted to the inside loop.
History / Summary
This club was found at Hamel on 16 July 1918 by "D" Company, 41st Battalion AIF. During the actual attack on Hamel on 4 July, the 41st Battalion acted as reserve and did not participate in the fighting. They remained in the Hamelet area for the remainder of the month, holding the new ground captured. This raiding club is a little more unusual than most types encountered, as it is simply a length of steel bar shod in leather, but its effects would be equally devastating.
