Description
Vickers Mk 1 Medium Machine Gun. Rectangular box section construction receiver with a fusee spring cover on the left and cocking lever on the right. Twin wooden spade grips with oil bottles and brushes in the handles. Central thumb trigger that has a safety lever stop. The water cooled barrel has a fluted jacket painted khaki. The muzzle is fitted with a recoil booster. The breech lock is missing from this weapon and it has brown ochre paint splatters on the jacket and receiver.
History / Summary
This gun was used operationally by the 4th Machine Gun Company for 960 days in the field, commencing at Gallipoli and finishing at Hamel in France on July 1918.
