95 mm Lanz Minenwerfer (Smoothbore Mortar)
Description
Lanz smoothbore muzzle loading mortar made from steel. The mortar is mounted on a four legged steel frame which is attached to two wooden anchor blocks. The mortar has a locked breech and pin assembly at the breech which facilitates loading. The mortar barrel can be elevated and has a locking handle on the left side. There are four carry handles attached to the wooden anchor blocks. The mortar is painted olive drab. No markings visible.
History / Summary
German Lanz smoothbore mortar issued to the Turkish Army during the Palestine offensive in 1917. The mortar was captured by the Australian Light Horse in Palestine in 1818.
