Sign board : Orderly Room, 27th Battalion, AIF
Square wooden sign board made from three tongue and groove planks set into a moulded wooden frame with mitred corners. The upper and lower sections of the frame are glued into place; the side sections (one side missing) nailed into place.
The sign has a cream painted ground within a brown and cream painted border. The upper plank bears a grey kangaroo on green grass, flanked on each side by a brown boomerang over the diamond-shaped brown over blue colour patch of 27th Battalion, AIF. The centre panel carries a green painted scroll with shadow lettering in black and brown, 'B.O.R' [Battalion Orderly Room]. The lower plank has black and green shadow lettering, '27TH BATTALION'.
The moulded frame is painted green (inner), brown (centre), and black (outer). A sturdy metal suspension fitting is attached to the back of the upper section with nine small nails.
This sign, identifying the Orderly Room (administrative headquarters) for 27th Battalion, AIF, was used in France and Belguim between 1916 to 1918.
