Presentation box of miniature brooms : Lieutenant Colonel F G Galleghan, 2/30 Battalion
Small wooden box with a flat lid attached with three leather hinges and steel nails. The lid is marked in pencil '"Search & Sweep" CHANGI BROOM FACTORY "UBIQUE BRAND"'. The box was made to contain four miniature samples of brooms, minus their handles, made in the factory.
This box of miniature brooms was presented to the Australian commanding officer in Changi, Lieutenant Colonel F G 'Black Jack' Galleghan. Prisoners who were members of the Royal Australian Artilley were responsible for the Changi Broom Factory, and the 'Ubique' brand name reflects the Artillery motto. The factory began production on 1 April 1942.
