Description
Italian Model 1891 Carcano bayonet and scabbard. The hilt is a cruciform design with a straight quillon and has a muzzle ring of 12.5 mm. The plain wooden grips are attached to the tang with two rivets. The crossguard is stamped 1F6632 and the pommel 1. The pommel has a push buttom locking bolt and slot for attachment to the rifle. The straight blued blade has a single fuller to each side to within 75 mm from the spear point. The black leather scabbard has a brass chape and a tear drop frog stud locket. Attached to the scabbard is a dark green leather frog.
History / Summary
This bayonet was brought back from the Middle East by Corporal J. French, 2/9th Battalion, who was later awarded the Victoria Cross during the Milne Bay campaign in 1942.
