Description
Netherlands East Indies 1 gulden note, serial number 'AA102010A'. The note is annotated in blue ink on the obverse with, 'WORLD WAR TWO 61 ACW DARWIN MOROTAI TARAKAN BALIKPAPAN PEACE 15/8/45'. Below this are the signatures of Squadron Leader George Douglas Bennett Maunder OBE and Group Captain Daniel Rooney OBE [CO of 61 Airfield Construction Wing]. There is another signature [illegible] on the reverse.
History / Summary
This banknote was annnoted and signed by members of RAAF 61 Airfield Construction Wing (61 ACW) to mark the end of the Second World War. 61 ACW was responsible for the airfield construction and associated works in the North Western Area of Australia and the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) during the Second World War. The wing was formed in January 1943 and disbanded in November 1945.
