Description

Tape 1: 2/10 Battalion departs England for Middle East in November 1940; battalion in Colchester on protective duty; activities on ship during voyage to middle east; Leslie Morsehead; arrived new years eve in Alexandria; camped at Ikingi Maryut; training in desert warfare; capture of Tobruk; taking of village/Fort of (Jerabub?); transporting Italian prisoners back to Ikingi Maryut. Tape 2: Being Brigade Major on operations and exercises; structures and procedures of brigade headquarters staff; preparations for defence of Tobruk; attack by Germans on Tobruk; breakthrough at Hill 209; Australians counter attack; Germans resist and counter attack peters out; poor communications and direction of Australian counter attack along the German line contribute to failure of attack.
