Dougherty discusses the state of the Australian Army when he returned from the Middle East; AIF vs Militia; lack of training of the force in Darwin; his impressions of officers in Darwin; his arrival in Port Moresby after Brigadier Pott's sacking; the reaction to Pott;s controversy of the Kokoda campaign; opinions of Lt Col Cooper 2/27th; his opinions of Brigade Hill and Mission Ridge; his detailed interpretation of the Koitaki Parade; a detailed analysis of his decisions at Gona; the state of the battle; removing officers; Gona's fall; a final summing up of the three battalions of the 21st Brigade - 2/14th, 2/16th and the 2/27th; and his impressions of the Commanding Officers of the three battalions.
