History / Summary

Lovett talks about why he volunteerd for tropical service, impressions on World War 1 leaders of the 39th, the standard of training, reactions to company commanders prior to leaving for Kokoda, flying to Kokoda with Bidstrup and the Americans refusal to land them, crossing the trail, the battle to retake Kokoda, Isurava, his first meeting with Honner, the conditions, ‘Nobby’ Earl the padre, working with Honner, details of Honner Force, the battle for Gona Honner’s style of leadership and the disbandment of the 39th.
