Description

"If the British Empire and its commonwealth last for a thousand years men will still say, 'This was their finest hour,' " promised Winston Churchill. This cassette reports the Battle of Britain and the opening of the North African campaign. First hand accounts by RAF pilots describe the air battles. Churchill recounts the culminating air engagement of the Battle of Britain. Interviews with ambulance drivers, bombing victims and shelter wardens describe the London Blitz. One eyewitness recalls being thrown through the air by a bomb. The cassette also includes Churchill, Harry Hopkins and Lord Halifax on lend lease. These are reports of military successes against the Italians in North Africa and Greece followed by reversals when the Germans intervene. The cassette concludes with Churchill's announcement that Germany has invaded Russia and a discussion of this campaign.
