Outdoor group portrait of the crew of Sunderland aircraft DV969 "E/10", No 10 Squadron RAAF at RAF Station Mount Batten, Plymouth, England. This crew attacked and sank a German U-boat in the Bay of Biscay on 31 May 1943. Identified from left to right, standing: 10452 Sergeant (Sgt) Ian Victor Speirs from Monea, Victoria (Fitter IIA); 409290 Sgt Frank Colson Callander from Melbourne, Victoria (Air Gunner)(later awarded a DFM); 411679 Sgt Clarence Charles Clark from Mussellbrook, NSW (1st Pilot)(later awarded a DFC); 410597 Flying Officer (FO) Claude Noel Austin from Skipton, Victoria (Navigator); 401451 Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Maxwell Stanley Mainprize from Toorak, Victoria (Captain) (later awarded a DFC); 409231 FO Thomas Maurice Ryan of Regent, Victoria (2nd Pilot); 10176 Sgt Arthur William Reeves of Colac, Victoria (Flight Engineer); and 19458 Corporal Sidney Charles Leech from Yarraville, Victoria (under training as 2nd Fitter)(killed 21 September 1943 on flying operations off the UK coast).
