Tunisia, Africa. C. 1943-05. For two years 714 Squadron Leader Robert Henry Maxwell (Bobby) Gibbes DSO DFC and Bar, of Sydney, NSW (right) commanded the famous No. 3 (Fighter) Squadron RAAF in the Middle East. This squadron had to its credit more aircraft destroyed than any other unit in that theatre of war. When he relinquished command of the squadron he had completed 450 operational sorties, destroyed 10? enemy aircraft, probably destroyed many more, and won the DSO DFC and Bar.
