Middle East. C. 1944-03. Left to right: Sergeant W. MacGuffie of Whitehaven, Cumberland, rear-gunner; Flight Sergeant S. Jeacocke of Maryborough, Qld, wireless operator/air gunner; and Wing Commander W. M. Morris DFC of Harborne Birmingham. The two airmen had spent twenty days behind German lines after they were forced to bale out of their Wellington bomber aircraft which was hit and set on fire by German ack-ack (anti-aircraft) fire. They experienced many exciting incidents before reaching the British lines.
