Description
Ground crew loading bombs on to Lancaster bomber "S for Sugar", No 467 Squadron, RAAF, in preparation for its 99th operation. The aircraft's fuselage carries a miniature bomb representing each operation and the famous quote from Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Goering, "no enemy plane will fly over the Reich territory". The Lancaster "S for Sugar" completed 137 operational missions over Germany and occupied Europe, the most missions of any Lancaster to survive active service. The aircraft is held at the RAF Museum, Hendon, London.
