Hampshire, England. 1945-09-23. Big drafts of RAAF and New Zealand airmen left Southampton by the HMT Andes and returned to the Dominions via the Suez Canal. On the ship were nearly 1,000 Australians and about 1,500 New Zealanders, mostly air crew who have operated over Europe, the Atlantic, Italy and the Middle East. Brigadier (Brig) Langley, of the Australian Red Cross, said goodbye to members of the Australian Red Cross who had been serving in Britain and also sailed on the Andes.
