South Vietnam. 1970-01. A Chinese Communist 82mm mortar, was captured by D Company, 8th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (8RAR), during Operation Atherton in northern Phuoc Tuy Province. Lieutenant Colonel K. J. O'Neill of Alderley, Qld, hands over the mortar to the District Chief of the Duc Thanh Military Area, Major Tran Van No at Fire Support Base Peggy. The mortar will be used for the defence of the Duc Thanh area.
