Identified front row, third from left is 3400 Sergeant John Alexander Spence, Fremantle, WA; front row, second from right is 3404 Lance Corporal Alfred James Wells, Bayswater, WA; middle row, third from left is 3401 Corporal Thomas Wilkinson James Telfer, West Leederville, WA; back row, second from left is 3402 Private William John Thornton, Popanyinning, WA. The 52nd Battalion was largely made up of men transferred from the 12th Battalion hence the cancelled 12th Battalion colour patch worn by this group. (See also P10550.014, P10550.023 and P10550.029)|
