Planning your visit
Bookings are essential for all school groups visiting the Memorial, whether you are choosing a facilitated program led by Memorial staff or a teacher-guided visit. The following tips will help you get the most out of your visit.
Before you arrive
Cancellations or changes in numbers need to be made in writing no less than 5 working days prior to visiting.
Students must be supervised at all times. Accompanying adults are free of charge; but please ensure a ratio of at least one accompanying adult to 15 students.
When you arrive
Ensure you bring your completed PACER (Parliament and Civics Education Rebate) paperwork for validation.
The eastern access road on the Memorial site, adjacent to the Education Orientation Space, is for drop-off/pick-up only. This is a no parking zone; buses and coaches must park in the dedicated areas provided on Treloar Crescent (see map below). Security regularly monitor the movement of traffic in this area to ensure the safety of all visitors onsite.
While you're here
- Please remind students about appropriate behaviour at the Memorial. Teachers have duty of care and responsibility for their group.
- Please leave all food, drinks and backpacks on your coach as there is limited storage space. Bottled water and medication may be carried into the galleries.
- To protect the Memorial's collection, pencils, rather than pens, should be used in the galleries if necessary.
- Please note that photographs may be taken by Memorial photographers during your visit and uploaded to Flickr.
New! School lunches are now available for pre-order from Poppy's café.
Schools are welcome to eat at the picnic areas behind the Memorial, on the base of Mt Ainslie, or beside Poppy's café. For further information call (02) 6262 7380.
Last Post Ceremony
If you would like to attend the daily Last Post Ceremony, please ensure that you note this in the "special comments" when you book online.
Please note: due to high demand and limited space, not all requests to attend the Last Post Ceremony can currently be accommodated. Only schools who have a confirmed booking for the Last Post Ceremony (this will be noted on your information sheet when you arrive) will be able to stay.
Don't forget that school wreathlaying ceremonies continue to be available and are the commemorative activity specifically designed for visiting school groups.
