Australian War Memorial - Shared Experience: Art and War
Colin Colahan (1897–1987)
Colahan studied with Max Meldrum in Melbourne from 1916 to 1919, and later in London and Paris, where he became well known as a figurative painter. In 1942 he was commissioned as an official war artist for three months to record the activities of the RAAF in Britain. He was re-appointed in 1944 to cover the events in Europe, working in a distinctive tonal impressionist style.
