Still Action: The War Photography of Damien Parer
Still Action: The War Photography of Damien Parer is a photographic exhibition covering the work of Oscar-winner Damien Parer in North Africa, the Middle East and South West Pacific, prior to his tragic death in 1944.
Still Action was jointly developed by the Australian War Memorial and the Orange Regional Gallery. A curator was contracted to develop the exhibition (Neil McDonald), the photographs were produced by the Australian War Memorial's multi-media service unit, and were matted and framed by the Memorial's Conservation staff.
Parer was a very talented film-maker, winning Australia's first Oscar for the Cinesound newsreel Kokoda Frontline; many of the photographs shown in the exhibition were made from his films. Despite his success as a film maker, Parer continued to devote much of his time to still photography and the majority of the Still Action exhibition is made up of these images. This exhibition represents some of Damien Parers finest work.
