3 mins read

The Australian War Memorial is preparing for the Anzac Day Dawn Service and RSL (ACT Branch) Veterans’ March on Monday 25 April 2022, the 107th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.

This Anzac Day marks the 80th Anniversary of Anzac Day commemorations at the Memorial. Due to the ongoing Development Project works at the Memorial, including enhancements to the Parade Ground, the mid-morning National Ceremony will not take place.

This year’s commemorative program will include:

5.30 am     Dawn Service
9.30 am     RSL (ACT Branch) Veterans' March
4.45 pm     Anzac Day Last Post Ceremony

The Dawn Service and Veterans’ March will take place in the Sculpture Garden in the western grounds of the Memorial precinct.

Following the Veterans' March, the Anzac Day address to the nation will be televised and livestreamed from the Memorial’s Commemorative Area including to large screens for public viewing in the Memorial’s western grounds.

Members of the public will be able to lay a tribute or wreath at the Stone of Remembrance in the Captain Reg Saunders Courtyard after the Dawn Service or throughout the day.

Director Matt Anderson said the Memorial is looking forward to welcoming thousands to Anzac Day commemorations at the Memorial, and encourages people who are unable to attend to tune into the ABC’s national broadcast.

“We encourage all Australians to take the time to reflect upon the service and sacrifice made by Australians in all wars and on operations. This legacy was created by those who landed at Gallipoli and fought on behalf of our nation and for our values, during the First World War.

“The Memorial is once again supporting the RSL’s ‘Light up the Dawn’ initiative as part of the Dawn Service,” he added.

The Dawn Service is a standing ceremony with no seating in place.

Veterans wishing to participate in the ACT RSL Veterans’ March can register online via www.actrsl.org.au.

The Memorial, in conjunction with Transport ACT, will be running free shuttle buses from various locations to the commemorations. For further information please visit the Memorial’s website.

The Anzac Day commemorations will be broadcast online and live across Australia by the ABC.

The Memorial building and galleries will be closed to the public on the morning of Anzac Day and will reopen at 12 pm. All visitors at this time will require a free timed ticket to enter the Memorial galleries. Capacity is limited, visitors are advised to book their free ticket in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Last Post Ceremony will take place on the evening of Anzac Day. Visitors can book a free ticket. Tickets to this ceremony are limited and will be in high demand.
