Audacity: stories of heroic Australians in wartime

1 min read

The Australian War Memorial is proud that the Children’s Book Council of Australia has selected its publication Audacity: stories of heroic Australians in wartime as an honour book in the Eve Pownall Award Category for Information Books in the 2015 Book of the Year Awards in Melbourne.

Audacity is a learning resource for students in upper primary to lower secondary levels, designed both for classroom use and individual reading. Like all the Memorial’s education programs, the content is developed from material within the Memorial’s archives, is age-appropriate and directly aligned with the Australian curriculum.

The Memorial's purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war. Its mission is to assist Australians to remember, interpret and understand the Australian experience of war and its enduring impact on Australian society.

This publication, developed in collaboration with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, is one of the many important ways in which the Memorial achieves this purpose and mission.

There are 15 themed stained-glass windows in the Memorial’s Hall of Memory, each displaying a word which describes a quality displayed by Australians during wartime. Audacity is one of the three books in the ‘Century of Service’ which reflects the qualities.
