Raise your glass wins 2017 Tamworth Songwriters Association ‘Anzac song’ contest

On Tuesday 24 January the Tamworth Songwriters Association (TSA) announced Paul Grierson and Chris Reiger as the co-winners of its “Anzac song” contest at the annual National Country Music Songwriting Awards in Tamworth.

Director of the Australian War Memorial, Dr Brendan Nelson, wrote a personal letter congratulating Mr Grierson and co-writer Mr Reiger for their song Raise your glass.

Lockheed Hudson Bomber A16-105 goes on display at Canberra Airport

A piece of Australian aviation history, painstakingly restored by conservators at the Australian War Memorial, went on display at the Canberra Airport today.

The project to display the Lockheed Hudson Mark IV Bomber A16-105 was made possible by collaboration between the Memorial, Canberra Airport, and the Virgin Australia Group, and will be on display for visitors to the national capital for the next two years.

Australian War Memorial launches new display - The Holocaust: witnesses and survivors

A new permanent display titled The Holocaust: witnesses and survivors has opened at the Australian War Memorial. It tells the story of the Holocaust through the experiences of several survivors who later made lives in post-war Australia.

Dr Brendan Nelson, Director of the Memorial, said The Holocaust: witnesses and survivors is a much-needed addition to the Australian War Memorial’s Second World War galleries.

Ben Quilty’s The longest war launched at the Australian War Memorial

A series of portraits depicting the impact of war on the family members of Australian servicemen and servicewomen was launched today at the Australian War Memorial.

Painted by Australian official war artist Ben Quilty, these portraits focus on the partners, children, and parents of Australian soldiers who served in Afghanistan. While family members have always played a vital role in Australian military history, their stories are often little known.

Corporal Lawrence Weathers’ Victoria Cross donated to the Australian War Memorial

The Victoria Cross awarded to Corporal Lawrence Carthage Weathers during the First World War will go on permanent display at the Australian War Memorial, bringing the total number of VCs on display in the Memorial’s galleries to 79.
