General Cosgrove retires as Chairman of the Council of the Australian War Memorial

General Peter Cosgrove AC MC (Ret’d) has retired as the Chairman and Councilor of the Council of the Australian War Memorial.
‘After nearly 5 years I look back with enormous pride at the way in which the War Memorial continues to fill a special place in the nation’s heart. Leading the Council has been an enormous privilege and I wish the Council, the new Chairman and all at the Memorial all the very best for the years ahead’ said General Cosgrove.
'The Memorial thanks General Cosgrove for his long standing contribution and leadership as Chairman and Councilor', said Nola Anderson, Acting Director, Australian War Memorial. “He has been a strong advocate for the Memorial and we have greatly benefited from his many years of experience. On behalf of the staff of the Memorial, we wish him well for the future'.
General Cosgrove first served on the Council of the Australian War Memorial from 2000 until 2002 as an ex officio when he was Chief of Army. He was appointed to Council in June 2006 for three years, and in 2009 for a further three year term, having been appointed as Chairman on 13 November 2007.
