Description
16926 Sapper (Spr) Murray Steven Gyles trimming prints in the Photograph Section of the Australian War Records Section (AWRS), Cairo. Spr Gyles, a telephonist from Cowra, NSW, enlisted on 8 November 1916 and embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Boorara 10 May 1917. After arriving in Egypt he was assigned to the 4th Signal Troop. On 27 April 1919 he was attached to AIF Headquarters in Cairo, for duty in the AWRS. where he was promoted to temporary Second Corporal on 21 June 1919 before embarking at Kantara for Australia on 2 August 1919 on board HMT Delta.
