Description
A detachment of the 5th Brigade passing through the infantry on the first objective and advancing with its allotted Mark V* Male tank towards the third objective near La Motte en Santerre (six miles from the starting point). The tank is named 'OMAR' No 9831, 042, and served with A Company, 5th Battalion, commanded by 2nd Lt L Highfield. The Mark V* tanks were each to carry twenty four infantrymen and unload them on reaching the objectives. However, the heat and fumes within the tanks caused the infantry to walk beside them until near the points aimed at. Identified: unidentified (1); unidentified (2); 3290A Private (Pte) W.
