Concept Leader First World War Gallery Redevelopment

Nick Fletcher has worked at the Australian War Memorial for nearly eighteen years. Several of these years were spent as part of the Travelling Exhibitions unit, which develops and tours Memorial exhibitions all over Australia. In 2000, he transferred to the Military Heraldry and Technology Section, eventually becoming Head of that areain 2011.  In 2012, he was appointed Concept Leader for the redevelopment of the First World War galleries, a project which will be completed in late 2014.

In October 2009, Nick travelled to Afghanistan as the Memorial’s Official Curator, and spent several weeks observing conditions and collecting photographs and objects for the National Collection.  In early 2011, he returned for a second visit, spending time in Kandahar, Kabul, Uruzgan and Helmand.

Nick was selected to participate in the joint Australian War Memorial – Imperial War Museum staff tour of Gallipoli in September 2000, and to accompany the eight young winners of the Simpson Prize on their visit to Turkey the following year.  In 2002, he led a group from ADFA, comprising cadets, instructors and family, on a tour of the Western Front, and he has been, since 2003, a leader of Memorial groups on the battlefield tour of Gallipoli. Since 2006, he has also been leading Australian War Memorial tours of the Western Front.
